On 23 April 2024, a seminar was convened at the Residence of the German Ambassador in The Netherlands, focusing on enhancing the court's jurisdiction over the crime of aggression. Hosted by the German Embassy, the event commenced with opening remarks from Ambassador H.E. Cyril Nunn, State Minister of the Federal Foreign Office, Katja Keul, and President of the Assembly of the State Parties Päivi Kaukoranta.
Panel discussions during the seminar centered on the relevance of amending the Kampala amendment amidst current challenges, potential avenues for amending Article 15 bis of the Rome Statute, the application of Article 121 (3) (4)/or (5) of the Rome Statute, and strategies for engaging global partners on the issue of the crime of aggression.
Professor Dr Christoph Safferling, Director of the International Nuremberg Principles Academy, moderated one of the panels. Joined by experts Isabela Hassfurther, Dr Astrid Reisinger Coracini and Professor Dr Claus Kreß, the discussions explored various options for amending the Kampala amendment of the Rome Statute. Approximately 60 representatives from States Parties to the Rome Statute have participated in the event (gp).
